MUFFIN BASKET on a D HANDLE

Dimensions: 5" W x 8" L x 4/12" H (8"H to top of handle)

Materials: 5/8" Flat reed, 1/2" Flat, 1/4" Flat, 3/8" Flat, #2 Seagrass, 5" x 8" D handle

Preparation: From 5/8" Flat reed, cut 6 spokes @ 20" From 5/8" Flat reed, cut 5 spokes @ 22"

Soak spokes in warm water for 5 minutes, along with a piece of 1/4" flat reed

Mark spokes and handle base at center (on rough side of reed & inside of handle)

Set handle vertically and place 3 20" spokes on each side, parallel, spaced 1/2" apart.

Weave the 5 22" spokes horizontally, weaving center spoke Over the center of the handle base.

True the base to measure 4-1/4" x 7-1/4".

Weave a retaining row around edge of base with 1/4" flat, overlapping across 4 spokes.

Upsett spokes.

Weave 3 rows with 1/2" flat, weaving first row Under the handle.

Weave 5 rows with 1/4" flat reed, dyed.

Weave 3 rows with 1/2" flat reed.

Weave 1 row with 1/4" flat reed.

Pack down the weavers.

Measure and tuck inside spokes to inside of basket under a couple of rows of weavers.

Cut off inside spokes flush with top edge of basket.

Pin a piece of 3/8" flat reed around inside of basket, over the top 1/4" weaver.

Pin a piece of 3/8" flat reed around outside of basket, over the top 1/4" weaver.

Lay a piece of Seagrass in between the rims along top edge of basket.

Lash rim with 1/4" flat reed, making an "X" at each side of handle.
