Materials:

#3 Round Reed for spokes

#2 Round Reed for weavers

16 10mm Wood Beads or Plastic Pony Beads

Cut from #3 Round Reed - 8 spokes @ 30" long.

Soak spokes along with 3 long pieces of #2 Round Reed for about 5 minutes.

Lay out the spokes 4 over 4. That is, 4 vertical side by side over 4 horizontal side by side.

Align the center of each spoke to the center of the base itself.
STEP 1 Rand with 1 pc of #2 round reed, around sets of four spokes treated as one. Go around three times.
STEP 2 Split one set in half and rand over 2, under 2, at this set only.
STEP 3 Continue randing 3 more rows in sets of four, but now your weave is alternated from the first three rows.
STEP 4 Insert a 2nd #2 round reed weaver and twine by sets of 2 spokes for 3 rows.
STEP 5 Split pairs of spokes and twine by single spokes for 3 rows.
STEP 6 Insert a 3rd #2 round reed weaver and triple weave (over 2, under 1) for 3 rows.
STEP 7 Gently bend the spokes upward. You can pinch the upsett point with pliers if necessary.
STEP 8 Triple weave 3 more rows up the side of the basket.
STEP 9 Cut off one weaver and twine 12 rows up the side, allowing sides to lean out slightly.
STEP 10 Twine 6 more rows, bending spokes inward gradually.
STEP 11 Slip a bead onto each spoke and bring it down right to the top edge of the basket.
BRAID:
STEP 12 Weave each spoke behind one spoke to the right - above the bead - and back to the outside.
STEP 13 Weave each spoke over one to the right - below the bead - and to the inside of the basket.
STEP 14 On the inside, take each spoke over 1 spoke to the right and down.
STEP 15 Repeat the over 1 and down step you just did.
STEP 16 Trim ends of spokes on inside of basket.
