  with Diagonal Curls

Dimensions: 10"L x 14"W x 7-1/2"H
Materials: 10" x 14" D Handle; 5/8" Flat; 3/8" Flat; 1/4" Flat; 1/2" Flat Oval; 7mm Flat Aspen space-dyed reed (1/2 Lb); 3/8" Flat dyed Peach (1/4 Lb); #3 Seagrass

From 5/8" Flat, cut 10 stakes @ 32" and 9 stakes @ 36"

Set handle upright with base positioned as your center vertical stake.
Lay one 36" stake horizontally across handle base at center.
Lay 4 stakes horizontally on each side of center horizontal stake, alternating over & under handle base, spaced approx. 1/2" apart. Outside stakes (next to handle uprights) should weave Over the handle base. Keep a 1/4" space between handle uprights and left-most & right-most stakes.
(You should now have 9 horizontal stakes weaving across the handle, over & under alternately.)

Weave 5 32" stakes vertically on each side of handle, alternating Over 1/Under 1.

True the base to measure 9-1/2" x 13-1/2".
With 1/4" Flat, weave a keeper row all around the edge of the base, mitering at corners and overlapping 4 stakes.
Upsett stakes.

Weave side rows:
5 rows - 3/8" Flat, natural, over 1/under 1 start/stop rows.
1 row - 3/8" Flat, Peach
9 rows - 7mm Flat, Aspen space-dyed
1 row - 3/8" Flat, Peach
4 rows - 3/8" Flat, natural

Pack weavers. Tuck outside stakes to inside of basket. Cut inside stakes flush with top of basket.
Apply 1/2" Flat Oval rim, inside and outside.
Fill rim with #3 Seagrass.
Lash rim with 1/4" Flat, making an "X" at handle sections.

Curls: With 7mm Flat reed, Aspen, weave diagonal curls.
Starting at any vertical stake, Tuck starting end up under lower row of 3/8" Peach (weaver is facing down with rough side up). Bring weaver up and to the right, going over two horizontal rows, and weave downward behind the second row on the next stake to the right. Bring weave back up around, crossing over 2 rows, and bring back down behind the 3rd row on the next stake to the right. Repeat process until you reach top row of 3/8" Peach. Tuck finishing end down under top side of top row of 3/8" Peach.
Go back to beginning with new piece of 7mm Flat, Aspen, starting on first row of 3/8" Peach at second stake to the right of starting stake and repeat process.
Repeat again until all rows are covered with diagonal curls. There will be 10 curls on each diagonal row.
